1. Alyssa Triple Zip Pocket Large Crossbody Bag – Best Shopper Crossbody Bag

Alyssa-Triple-Zip-Pocket-Large-Crossbody-Bag-Brown-Best-Shopper-Crossbody-Bag

While crossbody bags do have a general design, the extra long strap makes them especially we disposed to blending different styles into a single bag that can do multiple things. Enter the Alyssa with its vertical design but still larger than most standard crossbody bags, this is easily the best shopper style crossbody bag that we saw.

At 346 ½ sq. in., this is definitely one of the larger bags on our list, but with no dimension larger than 1’, it is still fairly small to provide a cute profile. This bag also features a 24” drop which places it right in the sweet spot of how far the bag should hang. While it does not have the most compartments on our list, the 4 that it provides are sufficient for most people’s needs.

This bag features a solid build quality that is not known for failing–which includes both the straps and the zippers. That said, the zippers are especially durable. Still, one issue with this bag is that the zippers do not close all the way which can make it a bit more prone to spills than other bags.
Pros
  • A good sized crossbody bag
  • Has a good length drop
  • Has a zipper closure
  • Zippers are durable
  • Build is durable
  • Has adequate compartments
Cons
  • Only comes in 15 different styles
  • A bit more expensive than average
  • Zipper does not close all the way
  • Heavier than most

2. Deluxity Lightweight Crossbody Bag with Tassel – Most Styled Crossbody Bag

Deluxity-Lightweight-Crossbody-Bag-with-Tassel-Blue-Most-Styled-Crossbody-Bag

As much as this review may make it a point to highlight some of the practical features of crossbody bags to provide you the nitty-gritty details to help you make a decision, there is no way around the fact that any bag, regardless its style, needs to look good. As such, with 36 different styles to choose from, the Deluxity bag ensures that there is an option which will appeal to practically everyone.

Beyond the actual variety of styles, this bag goes the extra mile to provide a number of different accents to make this bag pop even more. For instance, the zippers are gold toned both inside and out and feature adorable tassels on the outer zippers. Also, for the most part, this bag features a decent build quality.

The only exception to this trend is the strap which has been known to fail rather quickly when used as an everyday bag. Still, the strap does provide a nice 25 ⅕” drop. In terms of practical qualities, this is definitely one of the smaller bags we saw with only 45 sq. in. of storage space. On top of that, this bag only provides 3 total compartments.

Pros
  • Has a good length drop
  • Comes in 36 different styles
  • Has a zipper closure
  • A less expensive bag
  • Build is durable
  • Comes with multiple accents
Cons
  • Is exceptionally small
  • Does not have many compartments
  • Strap is not that durable

3. Travelon Anti-Theft Classic Mini Shoulder Bag – Best Anti-Theft Crossbody Bag

Travelon-Anti-Theft-Classic-Mini-Shoulder-Bag-Purple-Best-Anti-Theft-Crossbody-Bag

While most people might consider security a serious issue, the Travelon makes it a priority. In fact, this bag has so many anti-theft features that there is no competition: this is by far the best anti-theft crossbody bag that we came across. Even better, it still manages to provide enough other features to justify its use as an everyday bag as well.

For the anti-theft measures, this bag alleviates those concerns through a three-fold approach. First, the body of the bag is made with a mesh weave that is slash resistant to prevent your contents from spilling out. Second, the straps feature a reinforced inner band that is also slash resistant to prevent it from being pulled off of your shoulder. Finally, the card slip compartments are RFID protected to prevent scanners from stealing your identity.

From a practical standpoint, this bag is certainly not one of the larger bags that we reviewed, but neither is it one of the smaller ones either. Instead, the 144 ½ sq. in. sits in the middle. To go along with that modest size are 5 compartments of different types and sizes.

Pros
  • A decent sized crossbody bag
  • Has a wide array of compartments
  • Comes in 17 different styles
  • Has a zipper closure
  • Is slash resistant
  • Has RFID protection
Cons
  • Drop is a tad short
  • A somewhat expensive bag
  • Zippers are not that durable
  • Lining is not that durable

4. Baggallini Everywhere Lightweight Crossbody Bag – Biggest Crossbody Bag

Baggallini-Everywhere-Lightweight-Crossbody-Bag-Red-Biggest-Crossbody-Bag

While traditionally crossbody bags are not meant to be all that large, many people prefer a larger bag to use as their everyday bag. Whether you carry around a wallet, phone, tablet, or other larger items, it is often desirable to have a bit of extra space to put everything. That said, you may not want to give up the comfort and security that the crossbody design provides.

To satisfy both of these demands, baggallini has made the largest crossbody bag on our list–and the competition is not even close. At 607 ½ sq. in., the baggallini is close to twice as large as the next bag on our list. To complement that additional storage space, this bag also has the second most compartments that we saw with 6 in total.

With a 25” drop, the baggallini is able to still provide adequate room for its larger profile and even goes a step further by providing a card slip compartment that is RFID protected. That said, the brand and features of this bag ultimately drive up the price such that this bag is twice as expensive as any other that we reviewed.

Pros
  • The largest crossbody bag reviewed
  • Has a good length drop
  • Has a wide array of compartments
  • Has a zipper closure
  • Comes with RFID protected wallet
  • Build is durable
Cons
  • Only comes in 15 different styles
  • The most expensive bag reviewed
  • Zipper does not close completely
  • Not the most comfortable

5. Isabelle Women’s Classic Crossbody Bag – Best Small Crossbody Bag

Isabelle-Womens-Classic-Crossbody-Bag-White-Best-Small-Crossbody-Bag

Traditionally, crossbody bags are supposed to be a smaller bag. Whether used for a night out, running quick errands, or simply to make a fashion statement, the primary inspiration of the crossbody bag was to be an accessory of style not necessarily practicality. However, most people do not live lives that allow them the luxury of dressing strictly for style. As such, they might want a crossbody bag that can do both.

In that regard, the Isabelle is perhaps the best small crossbody bag that we found. While it is still somewhat limited in storage space, the 81 sq. in. is still far more than most of the other smaller crossbody bags on our list. Though, there are not many options for organization as it only has 3 compartments.

Still, in line with providing a stylish accessory, the Isabelle does come in 23 different styles to choose from and features some smart accents as well. The strap does provide a great 23” drop, though it is not the most adjustable. The build quality of the Isabelle is fairly good, but the faux leather does not handle moisture all that well.
Pros
  • Comes in 23 different styles
  • Has a good length drop
  • Has a zipper closure
  • Good size for a small bag
  • A less expensive bag
  • Build is durable
Cons
  • Does not have many compartments
  • Does not handle moisture well
  • Is exceedingly narrow
  • Not the most adjustable

6. FashionPuzzle Small Wristlet Crossbody Bag – Best Evening Crossbody Bag

FashionPuzzle-Small-Wristlet-Crossbody-Bag-Yellow-Best-Evening-Crossbody-Bag

Since traditional crossbody bags are generally fairly small, it only makes sense to use them as an evening bag. That said, true evening bags have a distinctive appearance and style that separate them apart from a traditional crossbody bag. FashionPuzzle seeks to solve that quandary by providing a bag that can easily transition from one situation to the next with the help of a minor adjustment.

Specifically, the FashionPuzzle crossbody bag comes with a wristlet. You simply need to remove strap clasps and connect the wristlet clasp, and you have successfully converted this crossbody bag into an evening bag. That said, it is vitally important that both a traditional crossbody bag and an evening bag makes a strong fashion statement, and with 27 different styles to choose from, FashionPuzzle ensures that you can do just that.

That said, even for a small bag the FashionPuzzle is exceptionally small. To make matters worse, this bag is only deep enough for you to get your hand in, so do not attempt to test its storage capacity unless you want to struggle to get the item back out.
Pros
  • Comes in 27 different styles
  • Has a zipper closure
  • A less expensive bag
  • Has adequate compartments
  • Comes with a wrist strap
  • Build is durable
  • One of the lighter bags
Cons
  • The drop is a tad long
  • Is exceptionally small
  • Is exceedingly narrow
  • Difficult to use zipper

7. MINICAT Women’s Small Crossbody Bags – Best Messenger Crossbody Bag

MINICAT-Womens-Small-Crossbody-Bags-Red-Best-Messenger-Crossbody-Bag

Because they are both fairly small and similar in design, it is more than understandable if you confuse a crossbody bag with a messenger bag. That said, the messenger bag makes a unique statement that is both professional and chic–a combination difficult to pull off. Thankfully, with a vertical alignment and a snap closure, the MINICAT is able to walk the fine line of a crossbody and messenger bag hybrid.

In case you were concerned about the security of your contents due to the snap closure, the MINICAT has you covered. While the snap closure is great for providing the messenger bag style, this crossbody element steps in to offer a more secure zipper closure within. Though, this is pretty much a necessity as the magnetic snap is not that strong and will come open on its own.

Despite being one of the smaller bags on our list at 48 ¾ sq. in., the MINICAT is able to provide a surprising number of compartments with 4 in total. That said, the biggest drawback of this crossbody bag definitely has to be the strap which is both not that durable and a tad on the long side–especially considering the minute profile of the MINICAT.
Pros
  • Comes in 18 different styles
  • Has a snap and zipper closure
  • A less expensive bag
  • Has adequate compartments
  • One of the lighter bags
  • Lining made of cloth
Cons
  • The drop is a tad long
  • Is exceptionally small
  • Strap is not durable
  • Magnetic snap not strong enough

8. Roma Leathers Genuine Leather Crossbody Bag – Best Leather Crossbody Bag

Roma-Leathers-Genuine-Leather-Crossbody-Bag-Brown-Best-Leather-Crossbody-Bag

Up to this point, every other bag on our list was made out of some kind of synthetic material. While most of the brands still managed to provide a bag with at least an overall good build quality, there is simply no denying the appeal and prestige of actual leather. Thankfully, Roma Leathers actually specializes in making accessories with leather.

That said, it is important to note that this is made out of genuine leather, which is the lowest grade of real leather available. Still, the use of real leather does increase this bag’s durability when compared to most of the others that we reviewed. That said, whatever adhesive or bonding agent they use to make the genuine leather of this bag is known for leaving an incredibly pungent chemical odor.

From a practical standpoint, this bag does provide 4 compartments which are adequate. However, it is also one of the smaller bags that we reviewed at only 58 ½ sq. in. On top of that, the strap is a bit long for the bag’s size. Finally, because it is made from leather, the style options are a severely limited to natural tones.

Pros
  • Made of genuine leather
  • Has a zipper closure
  • The least expensive bag reviewed
  • Has adequate compartments
  • Build is durable
  • Comes with an LED light
Cons
  • Only comes in 4 different styles
  • The drop is a tad long
  • Is exceptionally small
  • Has an exceptionally strong odor

9. Betsey Johnson Women’s Mini Satchel Crossbody Bag – Best Doctor Crossbody Bag

Betsey-Johnson-Womens-Mini-Satchel-Crossbody-Bag-Stripe-Best-Doctor-Crossbody-Bag

Betsey Johnson is a fashion icon who blends the whimsical with the outrageous into a wild style that is incomparable with what you normally find. As such, it only makes sense that she would be one of the few designers to blend the silhouette of the normally large doctor’s bag with the petite silhouette of the crossbody bag. While it may not be for everyone, it is definitely unique.

At 147 sq. in., this bag is actually in the middle of the road when it comes to total storage. That said, do not let the storage space fool you: this bag is definitely on the smaller end of the spectrum. This is in a large part due to the fact that the actual dimensions of the bag are either around 6” or less. With a somewhat rectangular shape, this means you cannot fit most normal sized wallets or even larger phones in the bag.

To complicate matters further, this is the only bag on our list that does not feature a single compartment outside of the main. This means that whatever you do put in the bag will get mixed together. Still, it does feature a solid 25” drop and is by far the most water resistant bag we saw–thanks to the 100 percent PVC material.
Pros
  • A decent sized crossbody bag
  • Has a solid length drop
  • Has a zipper closure
  • Most water-resistant bag
  • Features a handle drop
  • Reasonable build quality
Cons
  • Only comes in 9 different styles
  • Has 0 compartments
  • A somewhat expensive bag
  • Smaller than it seems

10. Soyater Women’s Nylon Crossbody Bags – Most Compartmented Crossbody Bag

Soyater-Womens-Nylon-Crossbody-Bags-Purple-Most-Compartmented-Crossbody-Bag

Soyater might not be the biggest bag that we reviewed, it is by far the best bag if you are an organization focused person. This is because the Soyater has more compartments than any other bag we saw, and for the vast majority of competitors, the competition is not even close. With a total of 8 different compartments, you can find a place for pretty much everything you might carry.

On top of that, the 337 ½ sq. in. total storage space is one of the best that we reviewed. Even better, this bag can actually handle being a bit overstuffed better than any other on our list due to the fact that it is made out of nylon. Beyond the flexibility that nylon provides, it is also one of the more water-resistant materials we saw and will not flake, crack, or otherwise degrade if left undried.

One thing that may be a bit of a problem is the fact that this features the shortest shoulder drop on our list at only 20”. While that may not otherwise be an issue for the traditionally petite crossbody bag, the Soyater’s larger profile means it may not fit everyone. On top of that, the lining has tendency to get caught in the zipper.

Pros
  • A good sized crossbody bag
  • Comes with a wide array of compartments
  • Has a zipper closure
  • Has solid water resistance
  • Build is durable
  • Nylon is strong and lightweight
Cons
  • Only comes in 6 different styles
  • The drop is a tad short
  • A bit more expensive than average
  • Zippers and lining not that durable

Buyer’s Guide:

Materials:

The material that the bag is made out of is important for a couple reasons. One of the biggest factors that the material will determine is the overall durability of the bag. While the quality of the hardware, as well as the stitching, will also play an important role in this consideration, the material will generally be the primary factor determining the durability of the bag.

Another element that the material will influence is how the bag reacts with moisture. While most of the materials used for bags are at least water-resistant, some of them are completely waterproof. Beyond how they repel water, the material will also respond to the water differently. This is especially important when considering its durability as some materials may lose structural integrity if exposed to water and left undried.

Leather:

This is generally considered the best material to use with a bag largely because it is the most durable. That said, leather comes in a couple different grades. The lowest grade of leather is “genuine leather.” This leather is made by either gluing or heating a thermoplastic to numerous strips of leather to adhere them to one another.

“Top grain” is the next grade and is significantly more durable than genuine leather. Top grain leather also has the property of being soft and supple. Due to these characteristics, top grain leather is generally the most popular to use with worn accessories like bags or wallets. This leather is made only from the top-most layer of skin.

The final, and highest, grade of leather is “full grain” leather. This leather is made from the entire layer of skin and is noted for its incredible durability. If you have ever seen a leather product that survived for a century or longer it was almost certainly made of full grain leather. The only major downside of full grain leather is that it is incredibly stiff.

PVC

Polyvinyl chloride, or PVC, is a type of plastic that is used for everything from purses to toys to fences. This material is 100 percent waterproof and will not degrade if exposed to water and left undried. That said, this is also one of the least durable materials that bags can be made out of, though it is not significantly worse than polyurethane in this regard. This is also one of the materials commonly used to make faux leather.

Polyurethane

Much like PVC, polyurethane, or PU, is a synthetic material, though PU is not a plastic. However, much like PVC, PU is commonly used as faux leather and is generally more commonly used for faux leather than PVC. This is largely due to the fact that PU is more supple and durable than PVC when turned into woven fibers. That said, PU is far less water-resistant than PVC and will change color when exposed to UV radiation unless it is pretreated.

Nylon

The final most common material used for bags is nylon. Like most of the other materials we reviewed, this too is a synthetic material. The main difference is that nylon is actually a synthetic fiber and not a synthetic plastic or foam that is then turned into a fiber. This material is more durable than the other synthetic materials used for making bags and is also somewhat water-resistant. That said, this material cannot be used in faux leather and does not hold its shape without support.

Compartments:

When selecting a bag, it is important to consider how many compartments the bag has compared to how many you need. If a bag does not have many compartments, then you will be forced to simply dump everything you carry around together and have to search to dig it out later. That said, not all compartments are appropriate for all types of items. The three most common types of compartments found in bags are pockets, slips, and mains.

Pockets

Pockets generally form the middle ground between slips and mains. They are larger than slips but smaller than mains. Similar to mains, a pocket is largely defined by the inclusion of a separate closure for it. Pockets are often used to carry a number of arbitrary items that you may not use all the time but still do not want to have to dig for at the bottom of your bag when the time comes. While they can feature any type of closure, the most common type of closure used for pockets is zippers.

Slips

Slips are the smallest type of compartment commonly found on bags and are used for fairly specific purposes. Generally, a slip will be used either to hold cards that will be used all the time–like an I.D. or credit card–or even phone, though slips which are designed to hold a phone are notably larger than the ones intended to hold cards. One of the more distinguishing characteristics of a slip compartment is the absence of a closure. Since slips are intended to hold things you will regularly use, it makes more sense for them to be securely held but easily accessible.

Mains

Mains are the largest compartment in a bag. While every purse will have at least one main, many purses will have two mains. Some bags even offer three mains, though it is rare to find a bag with more than three mains. This is the compartment designed to hold a wallet, tablet, or other large items. If the bag has more than one main, there will be a division separating them. Like pockets, mains will have a closure, and bags with more than one main will often provide a closure for each main. Unlike pockets, mains can have any type of closure including zipper, clasp, or snap.

Drop

For most types of bags, the drop is fairly important as it determines how you will carry the bag and how comfortable it is to carry the bag. For crossbody bags, the drop becomes even more important, because if the drop is not long enough, you will not be able to wear the bag as it is intended. The minimum desired drop length for a crossbody bag is 20”, though a drop length of more than 22” is generally preferred. At the upper end, a 27” drop it the maximum that is commonly comfortable with a 25” drop being preferred.

Conclusion:

As you can see, crossbody bags come in a wide variety of sizes and are designed to be used in a multitude of different situations. The best crossbody bag for one person is likely not going to suit everyone, but there are a few common themes among bags that can help you make your decision.
If you are looking for a larger bag or one to help you organize all of your belongings, we recommend either the Soyater or the Baggallini. Both bags are larger than most of the others that we reviewed and both feature a wide array of compartments to help keep your bag organized. These bags make solid everyday crossbody bags.
If you want something a bit smaller or more well-suited for a night out, then the Isabelle or FashionPuzzle are probably more to your liking. Both of these bags feature a smaller profile to present a cute juxtaposition. The Isabelle is a tad larger than most small bags while still maintaining a compact profile, while the FashionPuzzle comes with a wristlet to easily transition to an evening bag.
